Maha, I am a beginner and it would be helpful if you could please advice how the dots have been placed - have you placed the 5 dots vertically and then arranged the balance ?

What a coincidence, Mahalakshmi! I too make this pretty design once in a while. Nice free-flowing strokes on this one. Deepa, yes, in this design the dots are lined up vertically to begin with. You could finish up on both sides after the central two columns are done. In case you're interested in seeing the strokes drawn, here is an animated version of the same design. In my version, I changed the design to look like a vase (with bouquet of flowers), a container filled with candycanes for Christmas, and finally keeping the Diwali theme in mind, a bowl of laddoos. :) http://www.ikolam.com/node/207 http://www.ikolam.com/node/206

Yes Lata, that the coincidence. I saw ur animated versions, it's very very information and guides thru the way. Nice presentation. Infact, I was telling Deepa Venkat yesterday to thru ur gallery as u have so many animated kolams which will be very helpful for any level of people (beginner, intermediary or expert level). Thanks lata, for leaving ur comment here. Mahalakshmi

Dear Deepa, Happy to know that you were able to make this kolam. Slowly you can try big kolams too. Whenever i addressing you, i feel that I'm calling myself (my name is also Deepa. In my home they call me Deepa). Mahalakshmi

Dear Deepa, U can also visit Subashini's gallery - http://www.ikolam.com/node/5012. She has given so many kolams for learners with step by step procedure - how to create a big chikku kolam from a small chikku kolam. Will be very useful for you. Mahalakshmi
