Very colourful with butterflies as an added attraction. Story about this impossibility follows. I remember my evening walks along the saMpige Road long long ago when I was in the institute. Once I even bought theSE flowers and gave it to my mother in Madras. Those were the early days after the introduction of the Brindavan express. I'll narrate a story here, rAjammAjI, about this flower. It seems butterflies and bees don't approach this flower. Is it really true? So this flower called gandhaphali in Sanskrit observed a long penance. The gods were pleased and granted a boon. So in the next birth it took the shape of the woman's (supposed to be styabhAma) nose (nose is compared to this flower) and on either of its side, it had fluttering eyes in the shape of bees. There is a tailpiece to this story. It seems one poet was very impressed when he heard this poem by another poet. So he bought it at an exorbitant price through the other poet's barber and included it in his book. Both the poets (nandi timmana, the original author, and bhaTTu mUrti, the poet who purchased it) lived during kRshNadEvarAya's reign.
